Jamaica, home to Bob Marley, Usain Bolt, Red Stripe Beer, Blue Mountain Coffee and Jamaican Jerk. Why should you choose Jamaica for your honeymoon? There is a saying, "once you go, you know". I, for one, totally agree with that.
My very first FAM (familiarization trip for travel agents) was to Jamaica. I fell in love this Caribbean island and it's people. Recently my honeymoon clients, Kirk and Ali Molnar spent 8 fabulous nights on this island paradise. Here is their honeymoon story.
Kirk and Ali were married August 18, 2017 in Michigan. They left for their honeymoon on August 26 for 8 nights. Ali said, they chose Jamaica because they had never been and they had heard so many good things about it. I certainly encouraged them to discover this beautiful island. I booked a beachfront suite for them at Couples San Souci through Delta Vacations. I also recommended using Club Mobay for their arrival and departure.
Couples San Souci
Couples San Souci is carved into the cliffs with winding walkways, natural mineral springs, lush foliage and breathtaking beauty. The hillside view captured my heart the minute I saw it.
The following photos are all from my FAM trip.
Couples resorts are all-inclusive and adults only. San Souci is located in Ocho Rios and has 150 luxury suites (some with in-room jacuzzis) which all have a view of the ocean. There are 3 restaurants, 6 bars, 3 jacuzzis and 3 swimming pools in addition to the one natural mineral spring pool. The private nude beach has it's own pool, bar and beach.
There are a variety of activities that are included in your stay, such as scuba diving, unlimited golf green fees and transfers, Dunn's River Falls tour, waterskiing, Hobie cats, windsurfing, reef snorkeling, off-site excursions (shopping, glass-bottom boat, trip to Margaritaville), fitness facilities, tennis courts, wedding and honeymoon packages, 24-hour wifi and internet cafe, room mini-bar, round trip transfer to and from airport, 24 hour dining, premium brand drinks and all tips and gratuities.
One of the free excursions that the resort offers is a trip to Dunn's River Falls. Here is Ali's impression, "Dunn's River Falls was a great short trip. The trip only took a total of 4 hours and if you are planning on taking this trip bring water shoes or you can buy them from the resort. Also if you want to take any pictures bring a waterproof camera or a waterproof case for your phone that you can hang around your neck. You will be holding hands with others so you won't be able to hold your phone in your hand."
Kirk and Ali also enjoyed the free snorkeling at the resort. "We found it was best to do in the morning because that is when it was most calm. So many different colored fish. We brought our waterproof camera and so happy we did. We were also able to snorkel over a ship wreck such a cool experience. *Fun fact most people don't know (well we didn't know): There are no sharks in Jamaica. The water is too warm for them." *Note: I did do some checking on this and there may be some harmless varieties, however the more aggressive sharks, like the Great Whites, like cooler water.🦈
In addition to chilling at the beach and pool, Kirk and Ali took advantage of the natural healing powers of the mineral pool. "We loved the hidden mineral pool. It is tucked away in a little corner down by the gym. There are little fishes that swim around you as you bask in the benefits of the minerals in the water. Such a cool experience. We made sure to find our way here at least once a day. The water was a lot colder than the ocean so it was a nice way to cool down after basking in the sun all day."
"One other thing I heard someone talking about within the last few days at the resort is sea glass. You can find sea glass on Sunset Beach during high tide. We were able to find about 10 pieces the few times we could find it. The small pieces of glass make for fun keepsakes you can bring back home with you."
All Couples resorts offer free honeymoon packages which currently include a 25 minute couples massage and a free bottle of champagne. You must travel within 30 days of your wedding to qualify. And, if you have a great travel designer you may even get an extra treat and preferential room placement. 😉
"We were treated to a free 25 minute massage as a congrats on getting married. We decided to add an additional 25 minutes to our massage. One of the best decisions we made! We got our massages in a hut just above the water. What a great experience and one of the best massages we have ever had.
We were also greeted with Champagne and a fruit/cheese/desert tray when we entered our room thanks to Beth's Beautiful Getaways."
"The quality of the food was outstanding. They had many different options to choose from at each of the restaurants. It is hard to choose a favorite place to eat at since they were so different. I am not a seafood eater, but there were so many options if you don't like sea food. The cream of mushroom soup at Casanova was outstanding. Kirk was a big fan of any and all seafood, especially the lobster. We both are not too big into spice, so the Jerk seasoning was a little spicy for us.
Also, since this is an all-inclusive resort don't be afraid to ask for more food from any of the restaurants. If you really enjoy a certain entree and you are still hungry, don't be afraid to order another serving of it. Or if you want two servings of the appetizer, ask for a second serving or get two to begin with. They want to make sure you are satisfied when you leave."
"The best place to see the sunsets at Couples San Souci was Sunset Beach, which is in the "Au Natural" area of the resort. Clothes were permitted at 6pm and later. So, we would make our way over to sunset beach most nights around 6:15, which gave us time to hope people had their clothes back on." 😳
Ali and Kirk recommend trying to get to know the staff. "We have nothing but good things to say about the staff at this resort. They are so friendly and love to get to know you. We had a few staff members make sure to say hit to us any time they saw us throughout the resort. They would call us by name and would make sure we were enjoying our time at the resort."
Room, Resort, Views & Newlywed Selfies
Kirk and Ali had a beachfront suite with a great view. These rooms are located in the A & B buildings near the beach and pool. They had a private balcony and gorgeous view. Room service is available and they took advantage of it.
They also enjoyed exploring the resort, lots of walking and up and down stairs. There is a pond onsite and Kirk tried his hand at fishing. No keepers. 🐟
There were many other inhabitants besides guests. Check out the stray cat they befriended and the cute little crabs they found.
When you are on your honeymoon you take lots of selfies, which they did, but they also had the resort photographer take a few professional photos for them too.
I asked Ali and Kirk if they would recommend their resort to other honeymooners?
"Yes! I would explain our resort as a more intimate resort. Not many couples under the age of 35. There were a handful of couples our age there on their honeymoons or anniversary trips. We became friends with a couple who got married a week after we did. It was so nice to get to know them the week we were there together.
We attended the two big events that the resort puts on. Tuesday night they do Jamaican night and have a bunch of Jamaican food along with a show all about Jamaica. On Friday night they do the Starlight Gala which features food from all over the world. This was one of the most fun nights we had at the resort. Kirk even brought a plate full of desserts back to the room! Don't be afraid to attend the events that resort puts on."
Price: Approximately $5000 for everything.
