"Pura Vida" Honeymoon - Costa Rica

Pura Vida (POO-Rah VEE-dah) means "Pure Life". It can be used as a simple hello, answer "how are you", or it can be said simply when you are having fun! In other words, it is a multipurpose word just like Costa Rica is a multipurpose destination. One honeymoon couple discovered the variety, diversity and allure of this lush destination.

*This is the second post of a three part series on Costa Rica.

The shuttle cost $15 from the resort to Coco Beach. It was a bit "touristy" but a great place to get souvenirs, especially if you like to barter which Laura enjoys. You can purchase Costa Rica's famous coffee here...it is amazing! Obviously there is a beach there also. Laura and Davio shopped, ate a traditional lunch (beans & rice), and hung out at the beach. Laura said she had a hard time not feeding the stray dogs!

Swiss Travel Excursions

Laura and Davio highly recommend Swiss Travel for any excursions. They listened to what they wanted to do and see and did not try to oversell them.

Their first excursion was an all-day trip that included: Lake Arenal, a Volcano, Ziplining and Hot Springs. They left at 7:30 AM and returned at 11:30 PM. Their lunch, dinner and snacks were all included. It was a very windy day and Laura thought at one point the van was going to break down due to such bumpy road conditions. A boat transported them across Lake Arenal and the van met them and took them to the volcano and ziplining. They took a gondola ride up the volcano for some amazing views. They ziplined down 6 different lines above the rainforest canopy ending with a ride that took them right through the middle of the forest! It was absolutely incredible! The ziplines are not for the faint of heart, the highest was 600 feet and the longest was 1/2 a mile. On their way back in the van they stopped to see some Howling monkeys which were indeed howling at them. The last stop were the hot springs, a welcome relaxation after a long day.

The second excursion was also an all day trip. It included: Sensoria (Land of Senses), Rainforest, Hiking, Waterfall & Lagoon Swimming and Natural Hot Springs. This tour departed at 7:30 AM returning at 7 PM. Lunch and snacks are included in the excursion pricing. The ride was approximately 2 hours. They were taken to a beautiful cottage in the rainforest that runs only on solar energy. They hiked for 3 hours in the rainforest stopping at various lagoons and waterfalls. Fresh fruit was provided along the way. The tour ended with the most beautiful natural hot spring which was especially relaxing.

The photos include a coffee shop they stopped at to break up the 2-3 hour drive, a tree from the hike in the rainforest (the guide told them that they even sell wallpaper that resembles the plant that is climbing!), and a natural lagoon, with the bluest water. Laura said she swears it was the fountain of youth! They swam (it was very chilly!) and climbed the rocks. Their guide told them it is a natural healing pool and low and behold, Laura's mosquito bites did not itch after going in!

Total Cost (including excursions, tips, etc) = approx.$4500

I asked Laura if she would recommend Costa Rica to other honeymooners and if so, why?

This was her response: "YES, WITH NO HESITATION WHATSOEVER! It is affordable, $1 = 550 Colon. They also accept the American Dollar. Many locals do know English; the locals are also extremely nice and welcoming! (They appreciate tourists, as one of our guides told us, it brings many jobs to their country) The country is stunningly beautiful! With the beaches, to the volcanoes, to the rainforest, it does not disappoint. Offers many excursions, to name a few: Zip lining, Going to Volcanoes, Rainforest Hiking, White Water Rafting, Lagoon & Waterfall Sightings, Natural Hot Springs, and even depending on where you land, you can take a day trip to the country Nicaragua and get another stamp in your passport!"

Travel Tip from Laura: "One of my bridesmaids gave me the BEST tip - she told me to buy a journal and write EVERYTHING down from our honeymoon. I did, and have looked back and read it and it reminds me of many things I have already forgotten about. 😊"
